I don't know Fredrick but I feel like I do after reading this book. I used to be an up and comer, go getting wall-street banker working at Goldman Sachs. I lost my way after business school and for the past two years just coasted in a mediocre job thinking about my past success, wishing I could go back in time.The Sell changed all that. There's one simple line that did it for me. "Call me an old man. But also call me a multi-millionaire." Sorry if that's not the exact line but it was something very similar.Fredrick made me remember that I'm not average and I need to stop doing things average people do. This book was my wake up call.Since reading it, I've been sleeping earlier, going to the gym in the mornings and hustling at night on my side projects. I've already started generating more income and this summer I'll be quitting my job to do other things that get me as excited as real estate does for Fredrick.I don't know if Fredrick will read this but if you do, thank you. Truly. I really needed this book.To everyone else, just buy the book. It's only $20 and honestly, you should learn from someone that is really successful, not just some person that calls themselves a self help coach or anything like that. Fredrick is the real deal.High kick

Funny. Informative. General Knowledge. Good stories. This book by no means a how-to so don't think that after reading this, it will change your mind set and reinvent the wheel of selling. Fredrik has great insights and stories of how he got into the business and how he did his brand. Prospecting is how you find your next client, and he certainly can get that by his social media status and good personality. If you have good personality and you're active in social media maybe MAYBE, it can work for you. But for us in the business, word of mouth from previous client is still how stay relevant. Branding can only go so far, actual work ethic and client service & satisfaction still goes a long way.

One of the best books I've read. It is honest, inspiring, and to the point. Fredrik is a warm, kind soul. This book is written for The Sell so you would think that it is all business, but in the end, it is all soul. The EGO slips away and the bottom line is to live an authentic life. When we are happy, we live happy. That is what attracts The Sell. Excellent read. I only wish I knew Freddy in real life...

Fredrik is incredibly intelligent, obviously look at how crazy successful he is, as well as hilarious and full of heart. What I liked about his book is that it offers actually a vast amount of useful business tips and tools that can be applied to really any type of venture. Plus, he writes in a way that makes it highly enjoyable and empowering. Also I have to admit, in my business I don't know how many times per week we have marketers soliciting to us on social media or how many continuing education courses are offered per week on this and Fredrik's chapter on social media is my go to for this now. Not only did he actually explain the different avenues better, but by following his advice for posts I by far received way more buzz. Love this book and Love Fredrik.

The words on the pages are as full of life as Fredrik is when he is on camera. Don't get me wrong, this is not simply an entertaining book like the Bravo series "Million Dollar Listing NY." There is a great deal of practical and useful information in here for you, no matter which industry you work in. In my case, one of my clients is a Real Estate Team, so I bought the book to help me help THEM. Turns out it is helping me, too :)

I originally bought the book, and then bought the audio book so I could listen in the car. Frederik narrates the book himself, and his wit and charm witnessed on Million Dollar Listing NY really come through. It's quite entertaining, and an easy "read". I am in real estate and his advice is invaluable.

Frederick has such a big personality and you can almost hear his voice as you are reading along. Every page was great and so was the advise. Amazon makes you use stars, but surely this book warrants five high kicks Weee!

I don't watch his show, I don't do social media, and I did not know a thing about him until last morning when I saw him on Morning Joe (MSNBC) "selling" his book. Intrigued, I got it on Kindle and, even though my Thursday was busy, I just finished it (it's before 2 AM on Friday). Fun to read, nothing about it was heavy-going, and I found it practical for me, a person who is decidedly NOT a salesperson! I'm recommending it to my 21 years-old son. Good job, Mr. Eklund. Yep, so good I needed a cigarette when I was done :)I am not going to try to tell you about the story in this book since everything you need to know without a spoiler is in the synopsis, I am here to tell you to get this book and the one before and after it as soon as you can lay your grubby little hands on them.It was an amazing story, it never did what you were sure the next step was going to be, there was a wee bit more graphic sex than in any other Ilona Andrews book I can remember reading (and I think I have read them all) and at the end (and I hated that this book even HAD an ending, I wanted it to go on forever) you just kind of sit back and wonder what in the world you can read now because almost anything else will seem amateurish in comparison to this amazing story. It will take a few days to wear off LOLBottom Line: 5 Stars, I could hardly sit the book down, it kept going off in a direction I could not guess. It might be advantageous to wait until 25 Jul 2017 so you can read all 3 of them in a row, trust me, you won't be bored but you might forget to eat.

Even having to wait an extended amount of time to be published, the book does not disappoint, on all counts.So, you’re probably wondering about things between Rogan and Nevada? I know that was the main draw for me as I find Rogan to be an excellent alpha hero, and I always love a good romance plot. I was happy it didn’t take them long to cross paths again, and honestly it’s in a most show-stopping sort of way that puts them right back on track with the sexual tension and funny bickering. I like that their feelings for each other are pretty much acknowledged without doubt. There are no games played, it’s just being able to decide if you can actually be with someone. If their circumstances and your circumstances can cohabitate. The give and the take. Nevada’s family adds in some hilarity as they try to make sure these two get their happily-ever-after.One thing that comes up as a possible obstacle are Nevada’s powers. She’s a Truthseeker. On the surface she can tell if someone is lying, but we really learn that she wields so much more than that, and sometime soon she’ll have some decisions to make. In fact, we learn a lot more about the Baylor family and things they’ve chosen to keep secret. I really liked the expanded magic universe we get here. There are a myriad of powers that we learn about and it only serves to enrich the world-building.I thought the intrigue involving the Houses was well-played. It seemed natural that there was more behind events in the first book than meets the eye, and it kind of grows out of the murder investigation Nevada is initially hired to solve. Quite the tangled web that is definitely something continuing into the third (and final?) book. It’s because of this that you can feel White Hot being kind of a “bridge book”. But don’t let this moniker fool you, White Hot is everything you were hoping it would be. Trust me. As a bonus, Wildfire only releases in a couple of short months!

This blog post has been sitting in my drafts since December 2015, and I couldn’t have been more thrilled to get an ARC of this book from the Publisher, via Edelweiss, through Tasty Book Tours (this does not affect my opinion of this book or the content of my review and the usual disclaimer when it comes to Andrews applies…I bought it anyway).Oh Nevada and Mad Rogan, how do I adore thee? I’ll admit Burn for Me was a little rough at first when it came to my preferences. It isn’t so much paranormal romance (abysmal covers notwithstanding) as it is urban fantasy that you can tell will eventually have a stronger romantic component. And the hero was fairly anti at the time. But sometimes an epilogue just smacks you upside the head and shakes up all your preconceived notions about a character. So I knew I’d have to read the next one. Of course with the long wait time, I found myself going back to the first book. And much like the first Kate Daniels book, this is one that seriously improves with re-reading. It went from a 3.5 basically saved by the epilogue that bumped it to 4.5, to one of my all time favorite books.I never dreamed it would be so long until the next one came out though (heck the links and everything were still attached to my old Blogspot). But it’s probably for the best as I said, plenty of time for me to grow my love of these characters. Plus, new covers AND books 2&3 coming out so close together? It’s like a beautiful dream, except for that wait…and except for the covers not really changing. But hell, as I have said before, the cover curse is probably part of the fun now, and I guess it is nice that some things never change 🙂We got a glimpses of the secrets hidden in Nevada Baylor in the first book, but this one blows those secrets wide open, and I LOVED it. It wasn’t like she was hiding it from herself, so much as that in the struggle for the day-to-day you don’t always have the chance to utilize your best self, if you see what I mean. But then BAM! you get that incident where you have to reach down and pull your best self out, that is where the magic happens and it was GLORIOUS! Nevada as a heroine rocks.But as much as I adored Nevada, honestly (excepting her taste in men…initially) I adored her in the first book too. This second book really shone the light on Rogan, and it took facts we already knew about him, and then reframed them in a light that let us know, or maybe understand, Rogan better. Absolutely heartbreaking and heart wrenching, things that were pointed out gave me a filter to kind of take objectionable characteristics he exhibited, and overlay them with the understanding I have developed for the people I have in my life who have gone through similar situations. PTSD is a hell of a thing. That is Ilona Andrews gift, giving us the humanity in these powerful…sometimes kind of insane alpha-hole characters.And the relationship that built between these two strong people was fantastic, and funny, and a little sad all at the same time. Instead of a one note, one hit kind of resolution, it was messy just like life. And thankfully, we had enough will they/won’t they in the last book, so all that simmering heat just burst right onto the pages in this book. Very hot. And putting it all together created a very credible relationship that left me feeling warm…like super warm. But I definitely enjoyed the ride.The story itself was action packed, and aggressive, and twisty-turny enough to keep me engaged through out. Wheels within wheels conspiracies are slowly being brought to the forefront and I have a bamboozled on that one. Plus there was a ton of zany, crazy sauce Baylor family drama, which was a definite plus to me because the family dynamics were and continue to be a major selling point for this series. And man do family dynamics (not just Nevada’s) play an important role in this series-the good and the bad. Few things irk me so much as a romantic couple that seems to live in a vacuum, bereft of other family, friends, and human contact. But this book is cause for rejoicing on that front. The secondary characters in this story are fleshed out and appealing and there are a host of them I’d be thrilled to see get their own stories. Do I want Bug, Cornelius, Leon, and Bernard to get their own features? Yes, yes I most certainly do!The story arc for this book had a highly satisfying resolution (for a blood thirsty and vengeful girl like me you really can’t get much better than the ending this book’s big bad got at the hands of the person most wronged), and the overall series arc progressed enough that I am champing at the bit for the next book…but not so much that I feel I have any true inkling of how the final show down will go. And the teaser for the next one gave me all the angsty, excited shivers.So I am giving this book all my squee points, and thus far it has been my reading highlight for the year. Now I am off to reread these compulsively until I get my sweaty hands on the next one.

Clint C. Wilson II, Ed.D. is Graduate Professor Emeritous in the Howard University School of Communications where he teaches courses in communication, culture and media studies. He is a recipient of the Honor Medal for Distinguished Service in Journalism from the University of Missouri and the Lionel Barrow Award for Distinguished Achievement in Diversity Research and Education. He has lectured at academic symposia at colleges and universities throughout the United States and abroad at Oxford University. Dr. Wilson is widely regarded among the nation's foremost scholars of the Black press and his book "A History of the Black Press" completed the unfinished work of the late African American journalism historian Dr. Armistead S. Pride. The book was cited as one of the 35 "most significant books of the 20th century" by Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly. He has authored or co-authored seven other books including "Racism, Sexism and the Media: Multicultural Issues Into the New Communiations Age" The Society of Professional Journalists honored that work with its 2003 Sigma Delta Chi Award for Excellence in Journalism Research. Most readers likely know Kwame Onwuachi from Top Chef (season 13) and may be interested in the book because of that show. However, his chapter on the Top Chef experience is perhaps the least-interesting part of this fascinating memoir. Onwuachi focuses largely on his culture and the role it plays in his professional life, explaining that he is typically asked to cook either southern comfort food (he's from the Bronx) or African cuisine (his heritage is Nigerian, though he was asked to cook a meal from Senegal because "You know, it's Africa"), but his passion is fine-dining. He shares experiences working in a variety of cooking environments--catering, the galley of a Deepwater Horizon cleanup ship, Mexican restaurants, Per Se and Eleven Madison Park, culminating in his own restaurant, the Shaw Bijou in DC--and provides a personal look at what he experienced in each of those environments.But Onwuachi's focus throughout is on his race, his experiences growing up, and how those continue to influence his life. His parents divorced when he was young, his father was (is) physically and emotionally abusive, he was a troublemaker in school (resulting in his being sent to live with his grandfather in Nigeria for two years), and he became a drug-dealer who was expelled from college. Onwuachi tells his story matter-of-factly, without excuses or pulls for sympathy, allowing the reader a glimpse of the challenges he faced. When Onwuachi has his wake-up moment--watching Obama's inauguration after a night-long bender--he then shows how his experiences to that time helped him successfully matriculate from the CIA while owning his own catering business (largely funded by selling candy bars instead of drugs), work his way up the chef ladder while confronting implicit racism, and eventually open his own restaurant. He shows why this restaurant failed after only three months (to the delight of much of the DC restaurant community), and the story is unfair and heart-breaking to the reader despite Onwuachi not asking for our pity.While Onwuachi's story is fascinating, the writing itself is workmanlike: clear, direct, easy to follow, but without a strong voice or sense of style. Despite his youth (the entire story happens before he turns 30), there's so much here I wanted to learn more about: trying to attend a private school when your home life is chaotic and falling apart, living in Nigeria when all you've known is the Bronx, successfully passing challenging courses at the CIA while simultaneously running a business and working on the side, and so on. The apparently-required recipes after each chapter reflect this dynamic of sharing some but not enough: they're basic examples of dishes related to the chapters that preceded them, with little evidence of what Onwuachi would do to elevate them.In summary, Onwuachi shares a glimpse of his rich and dramatic experiences and demonstrates that we can learn from--and overcome--the most challenging circumstances in our lives. Highly recommended (even if you're not a fan of chef memoirs).

Overall this was a good read, and worth your time if you love food and its preparation. I think the overall reason I gave this three stars, though, is because it feels like the full story hasn't been written. Most people wait until their later seasons in life when they can look back at the journey and have it all make sense, whereas this book left me feeling unfinished.I'd recommend this to readers who've felt pushed down or ignored all their lives despite their talent and abilities. It takes a drive like Kwame's to get past people's obstacles of seeing who you really are, of seeing how you can be a strong asset to a team and a family and a great leader. In the end, you just have to swallow your disappointment and try again. And again. And again. And that attitude has not let him down.Big shout-out to Kwame's mother too -- what an amazing woman!

Fascinating reading, but I love trying the recipes -- and this one was a triumph for this mid-level cook with some training at the Culinary Institute of America -- three one week courses to be precise.Bastilla by Executive Chef/Owner Kwame Onwuachi of The Shaw Bijou in Washington, DC.Serves 4 people INGREDIENTS3 pounds Australian Lamb Shoulder, debonedSalt to taste1 cup + 4 tablespoons Ras el hanout4 + extra for frying tablespoons canola oil3 Yellow onions, diced1 head Garlic, minced2 cups Leeks, sliced1 tablespoon Tomato Paste1 ½ gallons Chicken Stock3 tablespoons Coconut Sugar4 inches Feuilles de brik, 2 x 5 inches1 cup Egg wash2 tablespoons Button Mushrooms, dehydrated2 tablespoons powdered Sugar DIRECTIONS1. Season lamb aggressively with salt and one cup Ras el Hanout.2. In a large pot on high heat, add canola oil. Add lamb and sear on all sides until dark brown, about two minutes per side. Remove lamb and set aside. Next, add onions, garlic, leeks and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add 4 tablespoons of Ras el Hanout and tomato paste. Mix until combined and cook until the tomato paste has a dark rusty color, about 5 minutes. Place lamb back in pan. Cover with chicken stock and turn heat low. Simmer for 3 hours, covered.3. Remove lamb and shred it. Reserve two cups of shredded lamb. Place the rest in the fridge.4. Strain the braising liquid into a bowl and place back in the pot. Add coconut sugar and reduce on medium-high heat until the liquid is syrupy, about 5 minutes. Set aside.5. Place the shredded lamb in a half hotel pan and place another half hotel pan on top. Weigh it down and place in the refrigerator for one day.6. Heat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove the lamb from the pan by flipping it over. Portion into one and a half inch by 4 inch pieces. Season with salt. Place in a large, oven-safe sauté pan on high heat. Sear until crispy on one side, about 5 minutes. Place in oven and warm through, about 10 minutes.7. Wrap the feuilles de brick around a metal tube and seal the edges with egg wash. Fill a large pot one quarter full with oil. Place on high heat until oil reaches temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Add wrapped fueilles de brick and fry until crispy, about 5 minutes. In a large pot over high heat.
